Subway Plans To Stop Using American Meat

MILFORD, CONNECTICUT –

Sources close to the meat industry say Subway is planning cost cutting measures to bolster the company against increasing competition.

U.S. poultry, pork and beef suppliers are worried the upcoming change could lead to a severe loss of American jobs and the shuttering of many processing plants.

Subway plans to import meat from China.

The source said, “Apparently Chinese meat is cheaper even with the geographic distance and transpacific container shipping costs. I know Subway prides itself on fresh food, so I’m not sure how their PR department will handle this as the story develops. It’s possible they’ve found a way to keep the Chinese meat fresh. But will Americans eat pork, turkey and beef from China? I can’t answer that question.”

Subway declined comment at this time.
