Grandmother Calls 911 To Complain About Her Phone Not Working

Oh the irony. This story about an elderly woman calling 911 to complain that her phone wasn’t working has been making its rounds on the Internet this week. If you have Facebook, you have probably seen this story already, If not, share it. The woman stayed calm and was able to thankfully make the emergency call.

The dispatcher, Dillon Wright, 37, says this is one of most funny memorable moments of his career as a 911 operator. “Things like this are becoming more commonplace as older generations are starting to embrace new technology.” said Wright.

The call went as follows.

“911, where is your emergency?”

“At my house”

“911, yes I understand that. But where is it?”

“Oh, I live at 565 Main St.”

“911, OK, what’s going on there?”

“My new phone won’t work, I can’t make calls.”

“911, Ma ’am, you’ve reached 911?

“Yes dear I know, This is an emergency, I need help so I can call my grandchildren.”

“911, Ummm ’I’m sorry, but you do realize that you are now speaking to me on the phone, so it seems to work fine.”

“Well damn, NO  it isn’t working, but, I’m sorry, I guess. I’ll just call the fire station, I’m sure they can fix a smartphone? Right?”

“911, Ma’am, what kind of phone do you have?”

“It’s a new phone my grandson gave to me, they’re so fancy, but it says  iPhone on it I think.”

“911, Ma’am, please try calling Apple Inc. for assistance.”

“What was that dear? Oh Ok, I’ll try to call the fire department”

“911, No Ma’am, please call Apple tech support.”

“Yes sir, but how am I supposed to call an Apple if my phone won’t work? That sounds confusing, I’ll call the fire department. I’m sure they can help.”

“911, Wait, no. no, no, don’t call them.”

“Okay dear, thanks for trying, I’m calling fire department right now. Good Bye dear.”

“911, Wait, wait, wait…”
