Grandfather Grows Football Sized Tumor In Balls

Bob Day waited a year to have a 9lb football-sized tumor removed from his scrotum because ‘he didn’t want to make a fuss.’

“I knew there was an abnormal growth in my giggle berries. But I didn’t want to fuss with it. I’m busy with my programs and my celebrity magazines and didn’t want to bother my family.”

The bulge started as a small lump that gradually got bigger and bigger.

He said: ‘You could see it in my trousers, but I kept putting it off. I wasn’t in pain. If I had been in pain, I probably would have gone earlier. I was still doing the gardening and keeping my clothes clean — doing everything as normal… even though taking a squirt was a bit hard.’

One day his daughter spotted the bulge. Mr. Day tried to wave it off as nothing. Then he said it was some wadded up socks, but soon he told the truth: “I have a growth in my yam bag,” Mr. Day told his daughter.

Mr Day’s GP referred him to a urologist at Liverpool’s Broadgreen hospital last December and after a series of scans, he was booked in for surgery in February.

Mr. Day had a sarcoma — a rare type of cancer that affects soft tissues, muscles and bones.

Luckily Mr. Day had the tumor removed before the cancer spread to his lungs. He is now cancer-free but will be required to have cancer screenings every three months.

“I’m glad my daughter saw my bulge and made me get it cut out. That sweet thing saved my life. I’m so glad I had kids,” Mr. Day said.
