HUTCHINSON, KANSAS –

Ginny M. Griffith,34, has been charged with arson after trying to light a spider on fire with a cigarette lighter and rolled up paper towels.

She told police that the spider had been terrorizing her with verbal threats that it was going to bite her on the face and the elbows.

It’s unclear if she ever killed the spider with the burning paper towels, but the carpet fire that resulted did require fire department intervention. Five units were called and managed to quickly control the spreading blaze.

Griffith’s aggravated arson charge stems from the fact that the other half of the duplex was occupied by a family.

No one was injured, except possibly the spider, and the duplex only suffered light smoke damage.
